What Is a Panini Recon Card?

Panini Recon is a hobby-only NBA basketball product built around a Holo chromium finish and a deep parallel ladder running from Holo Bronze down to Holo Platinum 1-of-1s. Recon did not launch as its own product — it started as an insert set inside 2019-20 Panini Chronicles and, on the strength of that insert's popularity, was spun off into its own standalone hobby release for the 2020-21 season. It has been an annual NBA-only brand ever since.

• Born as a Chronicles insert.Recon's design debuted as a subset inside 2019-20 Chronicles basketball, not as an independent product — its jump to a standalone release the following season is why the checklist and parallel structure still feel closer to a Chronicles tribute line than to Prizm or Select.
• NBA basketball only. Unlike most Panini chromium-style brands, Recon has never had a standalone football, baseball, or multi-sport release — the name shows up inside Chronicles Football and other multi-brand products as a tribute insert, but the real boxed product is basketball-exclusive.
