The short answer
Sports Card Investor (SCI) is a media and data company launched in 2019 by Geoff Wilson, an Atlanta entrepreneur who previously ran a digital agency before pivoting to cards. The core product is an app and website that comp cards using sold-price data pulled from multiple marketplaces, paired with a YouTube channel, podcast, and newsletter that cover market trends, grading news, and release hype. It sits in the same category as Card Ladder and 130Point -- price data and market commentary, not a checkout.
What Sports Card Investor actually offers
- Price guide and app— the Sports Card Investor app (iOS and Android) comps cards using sold data aggregated across roughly a dozen marketplaces, lets users flag favorites, and surfaces which cards are trending hot or cold.
- Portfolio tracking— users can log cards they own so tracked values roll up into an estimated collection total as new comps come in, the same basic idea as Card Ladder's portfolio feature.
- YouTube channel and podcast— daily market-commentary videos, release breakdowns, and interviews; Wilson's sons also run a spinoff “Card Kids” channel aimed at younger collectors.
- Newsletter and social presence— a free email newsletter plus an active Discord and social following built around deal alerts and market calls.
- CardsHQ — a large physical card shop Wilson opened in Atlanta in February 2024, with the Sports Card Investor video studio relocated inside it. This is a real, walk-in retail storefront, not just a brand name -- and as of a June 2026 Shamrock Capital investment, the two businesses now operate as one company under the CardsHQ name.
What it isn't
SCI doesn't process a sale. There's no listing flow, no checkout, and no shipping label generated through the app or site itself -- it's a data and content layer on top of transactions that happen elsewhere (eBay, auction houses, and other marketplaces it aggregates from), plus a separate physical shop for anyone local to Atlanta or attending in person. It also isn't a grading company or a vault; if you want a card graded or securely stored, that's a different service entirely.
How it differs from Card Ladder, 130Point, and SportsCardsPro
- vs. Card Ladder — both are paid data-and-portfolio tools owned by a media personality's broader brand, but Card Ladder is a standalone product owned by Alt with no video/content arm attached; SCI is built around Wilson's YouTube and newsletter audience first, with the app as one piece of a larger media business.
- vs. 130Point — 130Point is free, has no video or content layer, and pulls mainly from completed eBay listings. SCI is a paid app with broader marketplace coverage and a media business wrapped around it.
- vs. SportsCardsPro — SportsCardsPro pairs a free price guide with its own fee-free marketplace, so a sale can actually happen on-platform. SCI has no built-in marketplace; any buying or selling still happens on eBay, at CardsHQ in person, or wherever the comp data came from.
