What Is TRISTAR Productions?

TRISTAR Productions is a sports memorabilia authenticator and collectible-show promoter founded in 1987 in Houston, Texas by president Jeffrey R. Rosenberg. TRISTAR holds more than 300 autograph signings a year and serves as the exclusive signing agent for a roster of notable athletes -- including baseball Hall of Famers Craig Biggio, Jeff Bagwell, Ken Griffey Jr., Ryne Sandberg, and Larry Walker, plus seven-time Cy Young winner Roger Clemens -- producing an estimated 250,000-plus authenticated autographed items annually across public shows and private signings. TRISTAR also runs its own multi-city collectible shows (Houston, San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland, Baltimore, and others) and operates the official autograph pavilion at The National Sports Collectors Convention.

• Witnessed signings.As the athlete's exclusive agent (or the show promoter for a booked signing), TRISTAR is present when the item is signed, rather than examining a signature after the fact the way a third-party autograph authenticator does.
• Tamper-evident hologram. A numbered TRISTAR hologram is affixed to each signed item -- built as an aluminum layer between two adhesive layers under a transparent film, so attempting to remove or transfer it causes the hologram to self-destruct into a honeycomb pattern rather than peel off cleanly.
• Online lookup.The hologram number and its matching item data are logged in TRISTAR's verification database at tristarauthentic.com, the same matching-number check that applies to any hologram-based authenticator, covered in What Is a Certificate of Authenticity.

TRISTAR's model sits closest to Steiner Sports and Upper Deck Authenticated (UDA) -- all three certify the signing event itself, not an item a collector already owns. The distinction is who they work for: UDA is Upper Deck's in-house arm tied to its own manufacturer-run signings, and Steiner (now folded into Fanatics Authentic) built its name as an athlete-marketing agency before expanding into memorabilia. TRISTAR is closer to a show promoter and exclusive booking agent -- it runs the public signing events collectors actually attend and line up at, in addition to private signings, rather than operating purely as a manufacturer's back-office authentication arm. • Confirm the hologram matches the certificate. As with any hologram-based system, a certificate with no corresponding hologram on the item, or numbers that don't match on the tristarauthentic.com lookup, is a red flag.
• Witnessed authentication is not a card grade.A TRISTAR hologram confirms the autograph was witnessed at a TRISTAR event -- it says nothing about a card's condition. Submit a signed card separately to PSA, BGS, SGC, or CSG for a numeric grade.
• It only covers items signed at a TRISTAR event. An item an athlete signed outside a TRISTAR-run signing -- through a different agent, at a private appearance, or through the mail -- was never in TRISTAR's custody and won't carry (or be verifiable through) its hologram.
